SUSTAINABILITY

GOOD VISION IS A BASIC HUMAN RIGHT

Seeing well improves everything in life, your health, education and work opportunities, to  sustainable development of communities and economies. Our sustainable businesses and programmes help raise the global awareness of the implications that poor vision represents and creates solutions to improve the access to primary eye health care.

STRATEGIC GIVING

Certain communities have a lack of eye care awareness and accessibility. We work with those most in need and create long-term social impact by raising awareness, conducting free eye examinations, lenses and frame donations and funding for local vision care programmes.

AWARENESS

2.5 billion people suffer from uncorrected poor vision and the biggest barrier is awareness. Most have lived with visual impairment all their life and do not know that visual correction solutions exist. We lobby and raise awareness of the importance good vision so everyone can understand the quality of life benefits that come with healthy vision.

ENVIRONMENTAL FOOTPRINT

WATER REDUCTION

WATER REDUCTION

We are constantly improving our processes that involve water usage and continue to lower the amount of water used for manufacturing as well as the recycling of the used water.

FLEET

FLEET

Our vehicle fleet is regularly reviewed to ensure our impact on the environment is minimal by using vehicles with low emission outputs. Over the past decade Essilor  has reduced it’s CO2 emissions from around 155g/CO2/km per a vehicle average to a current 101g/CO2/km with a target of sub 100g/CO2/km vehicle average from early 2020. As part of the continuous drive to reduce our carbon foot print our fleet will include a limited number of electric vehicles.

RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES

RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES

We work very closely with our energy service partners and can confirm all mains electricity is procured from 100% sustainable sources. Typically 46% wind generation, 31% photovoltaic, 16% biomass and landfill gas generation and 7 % hydropower.
