GLASSES LENSES PROTECTION

Lens coatings, also known as lens enhancements, can offer extra protection for your lenses, enhancing the durability, performance and aesthetics. Lens coatings can be combined with different types of lenses including single vision and varifocal lenses. There are different lens enhancements to suit different purposes, from anti-reflection to UV protection. Lens coatings are a very popular choice for getting the most out of your lenses, from everyday wear to partaking in specific activities like driving.

GLASSES FOR DRIVING

You may experience scratches, smudges, dust or reflections when wearing your lenses, which can be very distracting. Lens enhancements can help to prevent this, resulting in a much more comfortable visual experience. Even better, lens coatings are virtually invisible contributing to your clarity of vision.

At Essilor, we offer different types of lens coatings to suit your needs. These lens coatings include UV protection, anti-reflection and lens enhancements for driving. So, whether you want to prolong your lenses or you want to eliminate unwanted glare, lens enhancements can achieve it.

DO SCRATCH-RESISTANT LENS COATINGS REALLY WORK?

Anyone who wears lenses will have experienced scratched lenses at some point, with many being sceptical as to what difference a lens coating will make. Plastic lenses are soft in nature making them susceptible to scratches, which is why having a special lens enhancement can help to provide extra durability.

Lenses can be treated with a clear, scratch-resistant lens enhancement that provides a harder surface to reduce the risk of scratching. This can be particularly handy for children’s glasses.

It’s important to look after your lenses, even with a scratch-resistant lens coating. Ensure you clean your lenses with a microfibre cloth, keep them in a cushioned case when they’re not being worn and never leave them lens side down on a surface. This will help contribute to the overall protection of your lenses.

GLASSES LENSES PROTECTION

IS UV PROTECTION ON GLASSES WORTH IT?

Protecting your eyes from UV light is imperative to maintaining healthy vision. Overexposure to UV light has been associated with health problems including cataracts(1), but you can help to prevent this by wearing the right lenses.

If you wear corrective lenses, you will benefit from having a UV protection lens enhancement, especially if you spend a lot of time outdoors. Our UV protection lens coatings offer E-SPF 35; the highest E-SPF index on clear lenses for optimal UV protection.(2)

Activity

What’s more, we have a specific UV protection lens coating that is also protective from harmful Blue-Violet light. Blue-Violet light is one of the factors recently identified which can cause damage to retinal cells.(3)

DO YOU NEED ANTI-GLARE ON YOUR LENSES?

Glare can be incredibly distracting and even uncomfortable. It is often found when you’re on the road, either from the road surface itself, other cars or street lamps. If glare affects your vision when driving, it can be very dangerous; you can reduce this by investing in an anti-glare, also known as anti-reflection, lens enhancement.

Lens coatings have been developed specifically to reduce reflections, which can be particularly helpful when driving at night. An anti-glare coating can result in more comfortable vision and improved confidence in everyday activities, including driving or computer use.

Glare

Anti-reflection not only improves your visual clarity but also your lens aesthetics by reducing reflections your lenses will appear clearer to others, making it easier for them to see you.
